Create & manage an identity mapping

If you're migrating from OneDrive for Business, follow the instructions for SharePoint unless specified.

Use an identity mapping to transfer identities (such as users, calendar resources, and groups) on your source domain to identities on your Google Workspace domain. An identity mapping ensures that user and group permissions in the source environment are transferred to your Google Workspace domain, including:

  • Sharing rights assigned to users and groups
  • The metadata that shows file creation and changes
  • Other references that include a username

Step 1: Create a CSV file to add multiple entries

Important: Include all identities in the identity mapping, even if you don’t plan on migrating all data at once. Identities might be referenced in non-user specific data, such as calendar events or sharing permissions.

You can add multiple entries using a CSV file. Create the CSV file using the following format:

  • In the first column, enter the identity with the syntax as it appears in the source environment.
  • In the second column, enter the target domain identity.
  • Make sure the character encoding of the CSV file is set to UTF-8.

In this example, the source domain environment is example.com. The target domain environment is solarmora.com.

Step 2: Create an identity mapping

  1. In the Google Workspace Migrate platform, click New and thenOther mapping.
  2. Enter a name for the mapping.
  3. Under Type, select Identities.
  4. Click Upload CSV file or drag a file to the box.
