Analyze your scan

When a scan completes, you’ll see Completed next to it. Then, you can view the scan summary and download the reports. Use the information in the scan summary and reports to consider:

  • Whether there are any significant errors in the scan.
  • How much data there is in the source domain and how that data is structured.
  • The best way to migrate the data.

Step 1: View the summary & reports

View the scan summary

The scan summary groups the data into categories (for example, users, source types, and errors). You can group the scan summary by one or multiple categories. Then, click through the log entries to see detailed information.

You can use the summary to identify the users and source types in the source domain that might cause potential bottlenecks. For example, if you group by error code, you might see that there is an unexpectedly high count of an error. You can click the error to see the details and a list of affected users. From there, you can group by source type to see the source type where the error occurred.

To view the scan summary:

  1. In the Google Workspace Migrate platform, click Scans. You might have to click Menu first.
  2. On the scan you want to view, click Logs and thenScan summary
  3. (Optional). To change the way the data is grouped, click the Down arrow  and choose an option:
    • Group by identity (default)—View the data by user or identity.
    • Group by source type—View the data by item type.
    • Group by error code—View the data by error code.
  4. (Optional) Click Details to see additional information.
Download the reports
  1. Click Scans. You might have to click Menu  first.
  2. On the scan you want to view, click Logs and thenReports
  3. Check the box next to each report you want to download.
  4. Click Download .

The reports are downloaded to a zip file on your computer.

Step 2: Analyze your scan

Use the scan summary and reports to understand your data before you migrate.

  • Troubleshoot errors—If there are significant errors reported, troubleshoot to resolve the issues. Make sure you rescan the data before you proceed.
  • Understand the source data—Use the scan to understand how your source data is structured. Do you want to replicate the data structure in your new Google Workspace domain? Or, do you need to make changes?
  • Identify data-heavy users—Using the object totals report, identify data-heavy users. These are the users that have high content ownership and permissions. You might need to put data-heavy users in different phases to help balance the load of a migration.

If you make significant changes to your project, we recommend that you rescan the data before you continue.
