Fix YouTube Premium & YouTube Music Premium sign-up errors

If you get an error message when trying to join YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium, find the relevant error message below to troubleshoot and fix the problem.

“We couldn’t verify your country”

YouTube needs to verify your country in order to show the plans and offers available to you. If you get a message saying, “We couldn’t verify your country,” follow the steps below to fix the issue.

  • Connect to a different network.
  • Use a different device.
  • Purchase YouTube Premium on the mobile app:
  1. On your phone or tablet, open the YouTube app.
  2. Sign in to the Google account where you'd like to start your membership.
  3. Select your profile picture  > Get YouTube Premium or Get Music Premium.
  4. If eligible, start your trial. Otherwise, follow the steps to start your paid membership.
If you’re actively using a VPN or proxy service, please refer to the service’s help center or website for info on how to turn it off. Once complete, sign up for your membership on youtube.com/premium or youtube.com/musicpremium.

Workspace accounts

  • You can’t sign up for a YouTube Premium individual or family membership using a Workspace account, unless it’s a Workspace individual edition account.
  • You can sign up for a YouTube Premium student membership with any Workspace account.
  • If you think you’re eligible for a trial but don’t see a trial option, switch to your personal account and sign up at youtube.com/premium.
