To avoid damaging your device, accessories or any connected devices, and to reduce the risk of personal injury, discomfort, property damage or other potential hazards, follow these precautions below.
Handling
Handle your phone with care. You may damage the device or the battery if you disassemble, drop, bend, burn, crush or puncture your device. Do not use a device with a cracked screen. Using a damaged device may cause battery overheating or injury. Don’t expose your phone to liquids, which can cause a short circuit and overheating. If your phone gets wet, do not attempt to dry it using an external heat source.
The phone is designed to work best in ambient temperatures between 0° and 35°C, and should be stored between ambient temperatures of -20° and 45°C. Do not leave your phone in places where the temperature may exceed 45°C, such as on a car dashboard or near a heating vent, as this may damage the product, overheat the battery or pose a risk of fire. Keep your phone away from heat sources and out of direct sunlight. If your device becomes too hot, disconnect it from its power source if it is plugged in, move it to a cooler place and don’t use it until it has cooled.
Use of your phone in certain modes, such as gaming, taking videos or VR, can cause your phone to generate more heat than it would under normal operating conditions. This may cause your phone to operate in a reduced-power mode or temporarily shut down.
Contact customer service and do not use the phone if it isn’t working properly or has been damaged.
Care and cleaning
Unplug the device and adaptor before cleaning, during lightning storms or when unused for extended periods of time. Avoid solvent and abrasive material that may cause damage to the product surface. Exposure to make-up, chemicals and dyed materials such as denim can stain the light-coloured phone case. Use a clean, soft, and dry or slightly damp cloth to clean the device and accessories. Do not use any chemical detergent, powder or other chemical agents (such as alcohol or benzene) to clean the phone or accessories. Don’t clean your device while it is charging.
Repair and service
Don’t attempt to repair the phone yourself. Disassembling the device may result in loss of water resistance or cause injury. For example, the device contains a laser that can be damaged during disassembly which might expose you to hazardous laser emissions which are not visible.
Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL should only be repaired by Google or a Google-authorised service provider. Unauthorised repairs or modifications could result in permanent damage to the device, and may affect your warranty coverage and regulatory authorisations. Charging
Make sure that the power adaptor and Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are well ventilated when in use or charging. Using damaged cables or power adaptor, or charging when moisture is present, can cause fire, electric shock, injury or damage to the phone or other property. When charging the phone, make sure that the power adaptor is plugged into a socket near the phone and is easily accessible. Avoid charging the device in direct sunlight. This product is intended for use with a certified Limited Power Source (LPS) per IEC 60950-1 rated: 5 Volts DC, maximum 3 Amp; 9 Volts DC, maximum 2 Amp; or both. The power adaptor should also have been qualified per CTIA Certification Requirements for Battery System Compliance to IEEE 1725.
Only charge your phone with the included power adaptor and cable, or compatible charging accessories available on the Google Store. Failure to use compatible charging accessories can cause fire, electric shock, injury or damage to the phone and the accessories.
When disconnecting the power adaptor from a power socket, pull on the adaptor, never on the cable. Do not twist or pinch the USB cable, and do not force a connector into a port.
Prolonged heat exposure
The phone and its charger generate heat during normal operation and comply with applicable surface temperature standards and limits. Avoid prolonged, direct or indirect skin contact when the device is in use or charging because exposing skin to hot surfaces for a long period of time may cause discomfort or burns. Do not sleep on your device or its power adaptor, or cover them with a blanket or pillow. Be aware of this issue if you have a physical condition that affects your ability to detect heat against your skin.
Your device may generate additional heat when charging, using a torch setting or using certain features, such as recording video or VR. Use extra care when operating the device in these modes.
Hearing protection
Prolonged exposure to loud sounds (including music) can cause hearing loss. To prevent possible hearing damage, avoid listening at high volume for prolonged periods of time. Continued exposure to high volumes and background noise can make loud sounds seem quieter than they actually are. Check the volume before using headphones or earphones.
Battery
This phone contains a Lithium-ion polymer or Lithium-ion battery, which meets the standard IEEE 1725. Do not attempt to remove the battery yourself. To replace it, take the device to a service centre authorised by Google. Use of an unqualified battery may present a risk of fire, explosion, leakage or other hazard. If the battery leaks, do not allow the leaking fluid to come into contact with eyes, skin or clothing. If the fluid is already in contact with the eyes, do not rub them. Rinse the eyes with clean water immediately and seek medical advice. Keep a leaking battery away from fire, as there is a danger of ignition or explosion.
Dispose of your phone, battery and accessories according to local regulations. Do not dispose of them in normal household waste. Improper disposal may lead to fire, explosion and/or other hazards. Keep the battery away from children.
Environmental restriction
To prevent damage to your phone’s parts or internal circuits, do not use or store the device or its accessories in dusty, smoky, damp or dirty environments, or near magnetic fields. Keep it away from heat sources and out of direct sunlight. Do not leave your phone inside a vehicle or in places where the temperature may exceed 45°C, such as on a car dashboard, window sill, near a heating vent or behind glass that is exposed to direct sunlight or strong ultraviolet light for extended periods of time. This may damage the product, overheat the battery or pose a risk of fire or explosion.
Do not use, store or transport your phone where flammables or explosives are stored (in petrol stations, fuel depots or chemical plants, for example). Do not use your phone where blasting operations are in progress or in potentially explosive atmospheres such as fuelling areas, fuel storehouses, below deck on boats, fuel or chemical transfer or storage facilities and areas where the air contains chemicals or particles, such as grain, dust or metal powders. Sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fire resulting in bodily injury or even death.
Navigation
Your device may include mapping and navigation services. These services depend on a working data connection and location services that may not be available at all times. Maps and directions may be inaccurate. Carefully review directions, use common sense, and follow all applicable traffic laws and signs.
Actual conditions; Assumption of risk. When you use Google Maps/Google Earth's map data, traffic, directions and other Content, you may find that actual conditions differ from the map results and Content. Exercise your independent judgment and use Google Maps/Google Earth at your own risk. You’re responsible at all times for your conduct and its consequences.
Distraction
Using your device when performing certain activities can distract you and may cause a dangerous situation for you or others. To reduce the risk of accidents (and because it’s prohibited by law in many countries), do not use your device while driving, cycling, while operating machinery or engaging in any activities that have potentially serious consequences. Follow local laws about using mobile devices, headphones and helmets.
Radio frequency interference
Observe rules that prohibit the use of wireless technology (e.g. mobile or Wi-Fi). Your device is designed to comply with regulations governing radio frequency emissions but use of wireless devices can negatively affect other electronic equipment. For example, while flying in an aircraft or immediately before boarding, use your wireless device only according to instructions provided by the airline. Use of a wireless device in an aircraft may disrupt wireless networks, present a hazard to aircraft operation or be illegal. You may be able to use your device in aeroplane mode.
Medical device interference
Your device uses radios and other components that emit electromagnetic fields, and contains magnets. These electromagnetic fields and magnets may interfere with pacemakers and other implanted and nearby medical devices. Always keep the phone and its charger more than 15 cm (6 in) from the surface of the skin near the pacemaker. Hold the phone on the other side of your body from the pacemaker or other implanted or nearby medical device. Do not carry the phone in a breast pocket or in a pocket near the pacemaker or other implanted or nearby medical device. If you have questions about using your Google device with or near your pacemaker or other implanted or nearby medical device, consult your healthcare provider. If you suspect that your device is interfering with your pacemaker or medical devices, turn off your device and consult your doctor for information specific to your medical device.
Hospitals
Switch off your wireless device when requested to do so in hospitals, clinics or healthcare facilities. These requests are designed to prevent possible interference with sensitive medical equipment.
Explosive atmospheres
Do not use, store or transport your phone where flammables or explosives are stored (in petrol stations, fuel depots or chemical plants, for example). Do not use your wireless device where blasting operations are in progress, or in potentially explosive atmospheres. Sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fire resulting in bodily injury or even death. Observe all notices and signs where these hazards might be present.
Child safety
Your phone contains (or comes with) small parts, plastic elements and parts with sharp edges that may cause an injury or create a choking hazard. Do not leave your phone and its accessories within the reach of small children or allow them to play with it. They could hurt themselves or others, or could accidentally damage the phone. Consult a doctor immediately if small parts are swallowed.
Emergency communications
This device operates using radio signals and may not establish or maintain a connection in all conditions. Wireless devices may not be reliable for emergency communications. While some jurisdictions transmit emergency information over wireless networks, your device may not always receive these communications depending on network connectivity.
Health-related functions
Your phone and its associated exercise application functions are not medical devices and are intended for information purposes only. They are not designed or intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions, or in the cure, monitoring, mitigation, treatment or prevention of disease.
Water resistance
Your device is water resistant but not waterproof. Your phone has a water protection rating of IPX7 under IEC standard 60529. Water resistance may be compromised due to normal wear and tear or damage to the phone. The phone charger and other accessories are not water resistant. Do not charge the device when wet.
Magnetic fields
Avoid placing any media containing magnets or sensitive to magnetism, such as credit cards, bank cards, audio/video tapes or magnetic memory devices, near this product or its charger or charging cable, because you may lose information stored on those media. Media containing information sensitive to magnets should be kept at least 5 cm away from this phone.
Human exposure to radio frequency energy
Like any other phone, your wireless device emits radio frequency energy (RF) during use. According to the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), the critical effect of RF exposure relevant to human health and safety is heating of exposed tissue.
According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), 'Some health and safety interest groups have interpreted certain reports to suggest that wireless device use may be linked to cancer and other illnesses, posing potentially greater risks for children than adults. While these assertions have gained increased public attention, currently no scientific evidence establishes a causal link between wireless device use and cancer or other illnesses'.
However, above a certain level (referred to as the threshold) depending on the duration of exposure, RF exposure and the accompanying rise in temperature can provoke serious health effects, such as heatstroke and tissue damage (burns). To avoid hazards to health deriving from high RF exposure, limits are set in relation to the threshold known to show adverse effects, with an additional reduction factor to take care of scientific uncertainties. These limits are generally expressed in terms of the specific absorption rate (SAR). SAR is a measure of the rate of absorption of RF energy in the body. Tests for SAR are conducted with the phone transmitting at its highest power level in all tested frequency bands. SAR limits were first established in 1996 by the FCC in the USA and they were then adopted elsewhere.

Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL were tested and certified to not exceed SAR limits in the US, Canada, European Union, Australia or India. Pixel 2 XL was additionally tested and certified to not exceed SAR in Singapore. EMC compliance statement
Important: This device, power adaptor and other in-box accessories have demonstrated Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) compliance under conditions that included the use of compliant peripheral devices and shielded cables between system components. It is important that you use compliant peripheral devices and shielded cables between system components to reduce the possibility of causing interference to radios, televisions or other electronic devices.

FCC regulatory compliance
Note: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:

Radio frequency exposure
This device meets the US Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) requirements for exposure to radio waves and is designed and manufactured not to exceed the FCC's emission limits for exposure to radio frequency (RF) energy. For satisfying FCC RF exposure compliance requirements, body-worn operations are restricted to belt-clips, holsters or similar accessories that have no metallic component in the assembly and must provide at least 10 mm separation between the device, including its antenna, and the user's body.
Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) information
This device is designed to meet the requirements for exposure to radio waves established by the Federal Communications Commission (USA).
The Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) limit adopted by the USA is 1.6 W/kg averaged over one gram of tissue. The highest SAR value reported to the FCC for this device type complies with this limit. Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL comply with radio frequency specifications when used near your ear or at a distance of 1.0 cm (0.4 in) from your body. Ensure that the device accessories, such as a device case and device holster, are not composed of metal components. Keep the device away from your body to meet the distance requirement.
Pixel 2 maximum SAR values as reported to the FCC are:
- 0.93 W/kg when holding it to your ear
- 1.14 W/kg when properly worn on the body (distance of 1.0 cm (0.4 in))
Pixel 2 XL maximum SAR values as reported to the FCC are:
- 1.00 W/kg when holding it to your ear
- 1.18 W/kg when properly worn on the body (distance of 1.0 cm)
Class 1 laser product
Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL contain a Class 1 laser module per IEC 60825-1:2007 and IEC 60825-1:2014. The design of the product incorporates optics and protective housing such that there is no access to a level of laser radiation above Class 1. Laser modules in these products comply with FDA-standards 21 CFR 1040.10 and 1040.11, except for deviations pursuant to Laser Notice No. 50, dated 24 June 2007.
Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL Laser Module: Made in China. STMicroelectronics (R&D) Ltd., 33 Pinkhill, Edinburgh EH12 7BF, United Kingdom
Since the laser could be damaged during repair or disassembly, which could result in hazardous exposure to infrared laser emissions that are not visible, this product should be serviced by Google or an authorised service provider.
Hearing Aid Compatibility (HAC)
Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have been evaluated and certified to be compatible with hearing aids per technical specification ANSI C63.19. There are two measures of hearing aid compatibility:
M rating, which is a measure of immunity to radio frequency interference for acoustic coupling hearing aids;
T rating, which is a measure of performance when used with an inductive coupling (telecoil) hearing aid.
Hearing aid compatible devices offered by Google:
- Pixel 2 M4/T3
- Pixel 2 XL M4/T3
As per FCC rules, a mobile phone is considered hearing aid compatible if rated M3 or M4 for acoustic coupling or T3 or T4 for inductive coupling.
Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have been tested and rated for use with hearing aids for some of the wireless technologies that they use. However, there may be some newer wireless technologies used in these phones that have not yet been tested for use with hearing aids. It is important to try the different features of your phone thoroughly and in different locations, using your hearing aid or cochlear implant, to determine if you hear any interfering noise. Consult your service provider or Google for information on hearing aid compatibility. If you have questions about return or exchange policies, consult your service provider or phone retailer.
These devices have not been rated for hearing aid compatibility with respect to Wi-Fi operation. Google’s devices meet the hearing aid compatibility (HAC) requirements set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) information
The radiated output power of Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL is below the Industry Canada (IC) radio frequency exposure limits. These devices have been evaluated for and shown compliant with the IC Radio Frequency (RF) Exposure limits. These devices should be used in a manner such that the potential for human contact during normal operation is minimised.
When using the device next to your body (other than in your hand or against your head), maintain a distance of 10 mm from your body for Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, to be consistent with how each device is tested for compliance with RF exposure requirements. Ensure that the device accessories, such as a device case and device holster, are not composed of metal components.
Pixel 2 maximum SAR values as reported to the IC are:
- 0.93 W/kg when holding it to your ear
