When you use voice dictation, you can choose from a list of suggested emojis to include in your text. You can also search for any emoji even if you don’t know the exact name for it.
What you need
Suggested emojis are only available on Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. Assistant voice typing is only available on Pixel 6 and later. To use Assistant voice typing, make sure that Google Assistant is turned on.
Suggested emojis are currently available in German and English in all regions.
Use suggested emojis
You can use voice dictation to search for any emoji without having to know the exact word for it. For example, you can say 'Happy emoji' or 'Excited emoji' and the closely-related emoji will be inserted. If an exact match isn’t available, you can pick from a list of alternatives.
- On your Pixel phone, open an app where you can enter text.
- At the top right of your keyboard, tap Keyboard microphone and say the suggested emoji that you want to use.
- Your emoji will be added to your text.
Important: If you haven’t used Gboard before, you’re prompted to give it permission to record audio. To allow recording, in the pop-up tap While using the app or Only this time.
About suggested emojis
Previously, smart dictation could recognise the spoken name of an emoji and add it to your text. With this update, emojis are suggested based on the context of your last dictated sentence.
