Keep your Android’s wireless connections on in aeroplane mode

When you first turn on your Android phone’s aeroplane mode, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are turned off. You can change this setting to keep your wireless connections on, so you stay connected to devices like your smartwatch or Bluetooth earbuds. You can also turn your wireless connections off again.

The next time that you turn on aeroplane mode, your phone will remember your previous setting.

Important: Some of these steps only work on Android 11 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.

Turn aeroplane mode on or off

To turn aeroplane mode on or off:

  1. Open your device's Settings app.
  2. Tap Network and Internet.
  3. Turn Aeroplane mode on or off.
Tip: You can also turn aeroplane mode on or off by swiping down from the top of your screen. Learn how to quickly change common settings.
Turn on and connect Wi-Fi
  1. Open your device's Settings app.
  2. Tap Network and Internet and then Internet.
  3. Turn Wi-Fi on.
  4. Tap a listed network. If it needs a password, you'll find the lock Lock. Once you connect:
    • 'Connected' shows under the network name.
    • The network is 'Saved'. When your device is near and Wi-Fi is on, your device automatically connects.

Turn Bluetooth on or off from the Settings app
  1. Open your device's Settings app.
  2. Tap Connected devices And then Connection preferences And then Bluetooth.
  3. Turn Bluetooth on or off.
