Why am I being charged for SMS when adding a RuPay card on Google Pay?

We send out multiple SMSes to increase the success rate of adding your RuPay credit card. You’ll be charged for the SMSes sent from your device.

The process of sending an SMS to register your attempt to add a RuPay credit card happens in the background. This will help increase the success rate of adding your RuPay credit card to Google Pay. You can’t choose how many SMSes are sent.

Why can’t I link my RuPay credit card on Google Pay?

You may not be able to link your RuPay credit card on Google Pay because:

  • Your bank doesn’t support UPI payments made with RuPay credit cards.
  • The mobile number registered with your bank and Google Pay are different.
  • You’ve entered an invalid OTP or incorrect card details.
I can’t add a RuPay credit card

You can only link RuPay credit cards that have the same mobile number as the one you used to register with Google Pay.

Some common errors when you add a RuPay credit card include:

  • Couldn’t send SMS

  • Couldn’t find account
    Before you add a RuPay credit card to Google Pay, you must:
    1. Activate your RuPay credit card.
    2. Confirm if your SIM belongs to the same mobile number registered with your bank.
    3. If your card is newly issued, your bank may not activate UPI services for the card. Wait for 48 hours and retry. If issues still persist, contact your bank.
  • Couldn’t register - Mobile number linked to multiple accounts
    1. Consolidate all your accounts in a single customer ID and for any other queries, contact your bank. Learn how to identify multiple customer IDs.
    2. If your card is newly issued and faces repeated issues in UPI services activation, contact your bank.
  • Couldn’t register - Issues with SIM card
    Check if you've recently reset the device to factory settings or applied changes to the current software. If you have, update your device’s software or firmware settings. Learn how to fix SIM-related errors.
  • Couldn’t register - Issues with flash messages

    If you’re a prepaid user, you're likely to encounter flash messages from your operator, which causes you to switch away from the app. To turn off flash SMS settings, contact your telecom operator. Learn how to disable flash messages.

I can’t see an option to verify my RuPay credit card with Aadhaar

To verify your RuPay credit card with Aadhaar, your bank must support Aadhaar OTP-based onboarding. For more information, contact your bank. To get your bank’s contact details, go to www.digisaathi.info.

You can also verify your bank account with your debit card details.

Error message: Mobile number isn’t linked to Aadhaar

To verify your RuPay credit card on Google Pay, update or link a mobile number with Aadhaar. Once the update is successful, try to add your bank account again.

Mobile numbers linked to Aadhaar & RuPay credit card are mismatched

To find the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar number:

  1. Go to https://uidai.gov.in.
  2. Under “Select preferred language,” tap the preferred language.
  3. Tap My Aadhaar and then Aadhaar services.
  4. Tap Verify email/mobile number.

If the number doesn’t match the one linked to your RuPay credit card, update or link a mobile number with Aadhaar. Once the update is successful, try to add your bank account again.
