If you add a bank account to your Google Pay account, you can create a VPA or UPI ID for it.
- On your mobile device, open the Google Pay app .
- At the top right, tap your Profile picture.
- Tap Bank account.
- Tap the bank account you added to Google Pay.
- Next to "UPI ID," tap Edit .
- To create a UPI ID, tap Plus .
Tips:
- You can create up to 4 UPI IDs on Google Pay for each bank account you add.
- You can't use VPA or UPI IDs created through other UPI apps or net-banking portals for Google Pay.
- A new VPA or UPI ID is created for you when you sign up for Google Pay.
- The VPA or UPI ID created through Google Pay is the default VPA or UPI ID on your Google Pay account.
- You can keep the ID you want and delete other associated IDs.

What’s social sharing
During a payment, if the beneficiary’s Virtual Payment Address (VPA) is unavailable, the payer is notified to “invite the payee” to set up an extra VPA. This invite is sent as a link on social sharing platforms like WhatsApp. Once the beneficiary sets up the extra VPA, the payer is notified to retry the payment.
For payers: Steps for social sharing
If your beneficiary’s VPA is unavailable, you can send them a message to set up an extra VPA. When the beneficiary’s VPA is unavailable, Google Pay notifies you.
- On your screen, click Message.
- Select the social sharing platform you choose to send a message to your beneficiary.
- A link is sent to the beneficiary.
Tip: When the beneficiary sets up an extra VPA, you’ll be notified.
For beneficiaries: Set up an extra VPA
If the payer requested to set up an extra VPA, you’ll receive a message about it. If you receive a message to set up an extra VPA:
- On your phone, to set up an extra VPA, go to the notification.
- Tap the link provided in the message.
- To set your extra VPA, follow the on-screen instructions.
