With Google Location sharing, you can choose who can find your location and how long you want to share your location.
Tip: Other Google products may also allow you to share a one-time location with others.
People you share your location with can always find:
- Your name and photo.
- Your device’s recent location even when Google apps aren’t being used.
- Your device’s battery power and if it’s charging.
- Your arrival and departure time if they add a Location Sharing notification.
They may also find other info depending on how you’re sharing.
Location sharing availability
Location Sharing works even when Location History is turned off.
You may get a warning when you open Location sharing. Common causes include:
- You're in a country or region where you can’t share your location.
- Location sharing isn’t available for your Google Workspace domain. To turn on location sharing, ask your administrator.
- You're too young to share your location.
- If your account is managed by a parent or guardian, they can manage Location Sharing with the Family Link app .

Share your location
Share with a person who has a Google Account
- If you haven't already, add their Gmail address to your Google Contacts.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app and sign in.
- Tap your profile picture or initial Location sharing Add people .
- Choose how long you want to share your location for.
- Tap the profile of the person with whom you want to share your location.
- If asked about your contacts, give Google Maps access.
- Tap Share.
If you have issues with your location sharing for more than 24 hours:
- Verify your age.
- If age verification didn’t fix the issue:
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app .
- Tap your profile picture or initial Location sharing Add people .
- Under 'Share your real-time location', toggle the time selector to Until you turn this off.
- On the people suggestions row, scroll to the right and tap More .
- In the search bar, enter a name, phone number or email.
Important: The location sharing recipient must have a Gmail account.
- At the top, tap Share.
Share with a person who doesn’t have a Google Account
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app and sign in. Learn how to sign in.
- Tap your profile picture or initial Location sharing Add people .
- To copy your Location sharing link, tap Copy to clipboard.
- To share the link with someone, paste the link into an email, text or other messaging app.
Stop sharing
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app .
- Tap your profile picture or initial Location sharing.
- Tap the profile of the person that you don’t want to share your location with anymore.
- Tap Stop.
Share your estimated time of arrival
After you start to navigate by car, foot or bicycle, you can share your destination, estimated arrival time and your current location. The person you share this information with can keep track of your location until you arrive.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app .
- Set a destination.
- After you start navigation, tap More Share trip progress.
- Tap the profile of the person with whom you want to share Share.
- When you reach your destination or stop navigation, you stop sharing your location.
- To stop sharing before you arrive: Tap More Stop sharing.
Get someone’s location
Find someone's location
When someone shares their location with you, you can find them on your map.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app .
- Tap your profile picture or initial Location sharing.
- Tap the profile of the person that you want to find.
- To update the person's location: Tap on a friend’s icon More Refresh.
Tip: If you have a Pixel phone, learn how to find someone with Live View.
Ask for someone’s location
If you shared your location with someone, or they shared with you in the past, you can ask for their location in Maps.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app .
- Tap your profile picture or initial Location sharing.
- Tap a contact who shared with you before.
- Tap Request Request.
After you ask for your contact’s location, they get your email address and a notification and can:
- View your profile to verify who you are.
- Share their location with you.
- Ignore your request.
- Block you. You cannot to ask for their location anymore.
Hide or show someone's location
Hide someone's location
If you don’t want someone’s real-time location on your map, you can hide it. You can turn their location back on at any time.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app .
- On the map, tap their icon.
- At the bottom, tap More .
- Tap Hide from map.

Turn on someone’s location that you’ve hidden
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app .
- Tap your profile picture or initial Location sharing More .
- Tap Hidden from map More Show on map.
Deny or block a location request
- Deny the request: Tap No. Your location isn’t shared.
- Block the requester: Tap Block. Your location isn’t shared and the requester can’t ask for your location anymore. When you block someone, it affects how they can contact you in other Google products. Learn more about blocking users.
Unblock someone
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app .
- Tap your profile picture or initial Location sharing.
- At the top, tap More Blocked users.
- Next to the person that you want to unblock, tap Remove .
