Errors and Warnings
When creating an upload, the GMCP tool will evaluate the files added, based on the associated layer type, to determine if there are any warnings or errors found with the files provided. The most common causes are:The shapefiles sent in are missing one or more required files
If you encounter this error, double check the files you are attempting to upload, and ensure all the necessary files are being included. This error is mainly targeted at shapefiles, as they are the most common instance where multiple separate files are required in order for them to be viewed and utilized.See Preferred File Types for GMCP for more information
The files attached are not compatible with Google Map Content Partners' preferred data formats (based on the specific layer type)
If you encounter this error, double check the files you are attempting to upload, and if possible use one of the preferred files types based on your specific layer type you are trying to get uploaded. If the files uploaded are not in the preferred format, we will attempt to utilize the data but there will be extended processing time, with a chance of a rejection if we are unable to use the uploaded file(s).
See Preferred File Types for GMCP for more information
The files attached are not allowed to be uploaded to Google Map Content Partners’ (based on the specific layer type requirements)
If you encounter this error, double check the files you are attempting to upload and choose another file extension that aligns with GMCP acceptable files based on the upload type you selected.
See Preferred File Types for GMCP for more information
Do not submit any data to Google unless you have all necessary rights and authorizations to do so.
- (Roads & Geocodes Datasets Only) After successfully submitting your data files using a shapefile or CSV format, you will encounter a pop-up with a Tell us more option. This option allows you to map your data's columns (fields) to Google's schema. By doing this, you can help Google better understand your data, make it easier to process and faster to display on the map.
Note: Even if you are not submitting Roads & Geocodes data, we still encourage you to fill out the Tell Us More page to help train Google's column parsing abilities.
Understanding the Tell us more page1. Corresponds to the number of related file groupings we've detected
2. Lists the files in the current file grouping
(a) If the file grouping is incomplete or doesn’t contain similar data, skip to (8)3. Check this box
4. A drop down where you apply an upload type for the current file grouping
5. A list of columns in the data you provided
6. A set of blank columns where you can map a Google column schema via a drop down
7. An example of how you would map your data to a Google value
8. Allows you to Skip or Complete the column mapping for the current file batch
