Change the screensaver on Google TV

You can choose what displays on your TV screen when you're not watching anything.

Choose your screensaver

  1. From the Google TV home screen, select Settings Settings and then System and then Ambient mode.
  2. Choose what you want to show:
    • Google Photos: Choose photos or albums saved in your Google Photos account.
    • Art gallery: Choose featured photos, fine art and more.
    • Custom AI art: Use generative AI to create your own images.

Create a screensaver from Google Photos

You can create a screensaver from your Recent highlights, favourite photos or any Google Photos album.

  1. From the Google TV home screen, select Settings Settings and then System and then Ambient mode.
  2. From the list of screensavers, select Google Photos.
  3. Verify your identity. You can:
  4. Select the albums that you want to use.
  5. Select Confirm.
Set a Google Photos screensaver from your mobile device
  1. On your phone, open Google Home Home.
  2. Select your TV.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings Settings and then Ambient mode and then Google Photos.
  4. Select the photos or albums that you want to show on your TV.
Customise settings
  1. From the Google TV home screen, select Settings Settings and then System and then Ambient mode.
  2. Under 'More settings', choose:
    • Personal photo data: Show or hide the owner's name and album name.
    • Portrait Google Photos: Choose if photos can show in portrait orientation.
    • Personal photo curation: Choose which albums are included.
    • Slideshow speed: Choose how long a photo stays on the screen.

Create a custom AI art screensaver

You can create your own screensaver with generative AI.

  1. From the Google TV home screen, select Settings Settings and then System and then Ambient mode.
  2. From the list of screensavers, select Custom AI Art and then Create new…
  3. Choose how to create your custom AI art:
  • Describe your idea: Describe what you want to create.
    • To use the microphone, press and hold the Microphone button on your remote.
    • To type, use the on-screen keyboard.
  • Inspire me: Let Google TV create an image for you with generative AI.
  • Suggested templates: Use a suggested template to guide you through the creation process.
  1. Once you have created a piece of custom AI art, you can:
  • Use the up and down buttons on your remote to scroll through image variants.
  • Save the image to your image library.
  • Generate a new set of images with the same prompt.
  • Start again with a new prompt.
  1. Once you've created your images, select Set all as screensaver.
Delete your custom AI images
  1. From the custom AI art page, select Manage images.
  2. Select the images that you want to delete and then Delete.
Report an AI-generated image
  1. After you have generated an image, select Feedback.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Show weather and time on your screensaver

  1. From the Google TV home screen, select Settings Settings and then System and then Ambient mode.
  2. Under 'More settings', choose:
    • Weather: Choose °C, °F or Both.
    • Time: Choose to show or hide the time.
In the Google Home app, weather information is based on the home address that you set. If you don't have an address set, the weather information is based on your IP address and might be different on other devices in your home.
