Delete your Google Assistant activity

Your Google Assistant stores your past activity to do things like remember your interests and give more personalised responses. You can find or delete your past activity at any time.

Delete activity with your voice

You can ask your Google Assistant to delete activity from your account.

For example, you can say:

  • “Hey Google, delete my last conversation.”
  • “Hey Google, delete today’s activity.”
  • “Hey Google, delete this week’s activity.”
  • "Hey Google, that wasn't for you" to delete the last thing that you said.

Delete a specific activity

You can delete an individual item, like something that you asked your Google Assistant to remember.

In your conversation (phone only)

If you're using Google Assistant on your phone, you can delete past activity directly in your Assistant conversation. You can find up to a month of past activity in your conversation. 

  1. On your phone, touch and hold the Home button or say "Hey Google".
  2. In your Google Assistant conversation, find an item that you want to delete.
  3. Touch and hold the item. Related items will get highlighted and then Delete group.
Tip: For other Assistant devices, like Google Home or Android Wear, follow the steps below to delete activity in your Google account.
In your Google account
  1. Go to your Google account's Assistant activity page. If you haven't already, sign into your Google account.
  2. Find the activity that you want to delete. Tip: At the top of the page, filter by date.
  3. Tap More More and then Delete.

Delete all Assistant activity at once

Important: When you delete all activity, it can take a day before the activity is deleted from your other devices.

  1. Go to your Google Account's Assistant activity page.
  2.  Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. At the top right, on the "Google Assistant" banner, tap More More and then Delete activity by.
  4. Under "Delete activity by", choose All time.
  5. Tap Delete.
  6. To confirm, tap Delete.

Turn on your Assistant activity on Chromebook

When you set up your Google Assistant on your Chromebook, you may be asked to turn on certain settings. You can choose to turn them on or off at any time. Learn about settings that you may be asked to turn on.

Important: When you turn on these settings, you turn them on for your Assistant and other Google services that you use.

  1. Go to your Google Account activity controls. You might need to sign in to your account.
  2. Turn these settings on or off:

Check your Google Assistant activity

When Assistant has access to your Google Account and your Web & App Activity is turned on, your interactions with your Assistant are saved to your account.

  1. Go to your Google Account's Assistant activity page.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. At the top of the page, search for an activity or filter by date.

Tip: To view specific activity info, in an activity’s banner, select More More and then Details.

Delete your Assistant activity

Important: When you delete all activity, it can take a day before the activity is deleted from your other devices.

  1. Go to your Google account's Assistant activity page. If you haven't already, sign in to your Google Account.
  2. At the top right, in the "Google Assistant" banner, select More More and then Delete activity by.
  3. Under "Delete Google Assistant activity", choose a time period.
  4. Select Delete.

Are my interactions with Google Assistant used to improve it?

We'll continue to improve the usefulness of Google Assistant over time, and part of this is through learning from past activity with Google Assistant.

Does Google use my interactions with Google Assistant to personalise ads that I see?

If you interact with Google Assistant, we may use these interactions to deliver more useful ads. You can delete past interactions with your Assistant at any time.

Manage use of your Google Assistant device

Important: This feature isn't yet available in some languages and countries/regions.

You can use Digital Wellbeing to control when and how people, like guests or your family, use your speaker, Assistant-enabled device or Smart Clock.

Only the person who sets up the speaker, Assistant-enabled device or Smart Clock can set up and manage Filters and Downtime.

Control which features people can use

Important: No filter is 100% effective, but these filters can help you manage access to mature content.

You can choose whether filters affect everyone who uses your device, or just guests and children with a Family Link account. You can apply filters to a specific device or to all supported devices.

Set up Digital Wellbeing filters

Important: When you set up filters, they restrict or block music, video services and other actions that are part of a routine.

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. Touch and hold your device.
  4. At the top right, tap Device settings Settings and then Notifications and Digital Wellbeing and then Digital Wellbeing and then Set up.

How Digital Wellbeing filters work

Important: Even if you turn on video and other content filters, you can still open videos and other content through news, podcasts and websites. For example, if you block videos but allow websites, people may still be able to open videos through websites.

You can apply most Digital Wellbeing filters below to speakers, Assistant-enabled devices and Smart Clocks. The websites filter is only available on Assistant-enabled devices.

Tip: For Digital Wellbeing to work correctly, your devices and apps must be up to date.

Video filters

  • Allow any video: Your device plays all supported videos.
  • Only allow filtered videos: Your device only plays videos from the video services that you choose.
  • Block all videos: Your device won’t play any videos.

Music filters

Important: Regardless of your music filter setting, audiobooks and radio stations from services like iHeartRadio and TuneIn are always available.

  • Allow any music: Your device plays all music.
  • Only allow non-explicit music: Your device allows you to choose from music services that can play non-explicit songs.
  • Block all music: Your device won’t play any music.

News

  • Allow news: Your device plays all supported news.
  • Block news: Your device won’t play any news.

Podcasts

  • Allow podcasts: Your device plays all supported podcasts.
  • Block podcasts: Your device won’t play any podcasts.

Calls

  • Allow calls: Your device can make any voice and video calls.
  • Block all calls: Your device won’t make voice or video calls. This doesn't block voice messages that you broadcast in your home.

Google Assistant answers

  • Allow answers: Your device can respond with any supported answer.
  • Restrict answers: Your device only responds to basic questions like weather, maths, definitions and other simple facts.
  • Tip: Examples of simple facts are the number of days until a holiday or the location of a city.

Actions on Google

  • Allow all actions: Your device can perform any supported action.
  • Only allow family-friendly actions: Your device can only perform Actions for Families, which are appropriate for family members of all ages.

Websites

Important:

  • This filter is only available on Assistant-enabled devices. If you link a supervised account for a child under 13 or the applicable age in your country to your Assistant-enabled device, the web may be blocked unless you allow websites.
  • Google's Assistant-enabled devices can open the web through SafeSearch technology, which may block explicit websites. Certain third-party devices don’t support SafeSearch.
  • If you allow websites on these third-party devices, people who use third-party Assistant-enabled devices can't view the web with SafeSearch.
  • Allow websites: Your Assistant-enabled device can open websites.
  • Block websites: Your Assistant-enabled device won’t open websites.

Tip: The "Allow websites" setting is on by default for Assistant-enabled devices with SafeSearch, and off by default for Assistant-enabled devices without SafeSearch. In the Digital Wellbeing settings menu, you can manage website settings.

Manage filters for YouTube, YouTube Music and YouTube TV

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. Touch and hold your device.
  4. At the top right, tap Device settings Settings and then Notifications and Digital Wellbeing and then YouTube settings.

YouTube Music and YouTube video search filters

You can filter potential mature music and videos on YouTube for yourself and unrecognised users on the device. Learn more about YouTube Restricted mode.

Under "Use Restricted Mode:"

  • Turn Restrict for me on this device on or off.
  • Turn Restrict for unrecognised users on this device on or off.

YouTube TV filters

Important: YouTube TV is only available in the US. Learn more about available locations and networks.

You can choose to allow programmes rated YT-Y, YT-G, G and PG to play for yourself on the device.

Under “Filter content for YouTube TV", turn Filter for me on or off.

Temporarily turn off Google Assistant

You can turn on Downtime to temporarily limit what your speaker, Assistant-enabled device or Smart Clock can do.

Set up Downtime

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. Touch and hold your device.
  4. At the top right, tap Device settings More and then Notifications and Digital Wellbeing and then Digital wellbeing and then New schedule.

Change Downtime schedule

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. Touch and hold your device.
  4. At the top right, tap Device settings Settings and then Notifications and Digital Wellbeing and then Digital wellbeing.
  5. Tap the schedule that you want to change.
    • To choose which days that you want Downtime to turn on:
      1. Choose which days. You can use a pre-made schedule or create a customer schedule.
      2. Tap Save.
    • To choose the times for Downtime to start and end:
      1. Choose the times for Downtime to start and end.
      2. Tap Save.

What happens when Downtime is on

  • Your device won’t respond to most commands or questions. Commands to stop or cancel activities still work.
  • You won’t receive notifications on your device.
  • Routines won’t work unless you started one before you turned on Downtime.
  • Activities that started before Downtime begins will continue. For example, you can play music before Downtime starts, and it continues to play until you stop it.
  • You can set an alarm or timer, or ask for the time.
  • You can use commands to control your smart devices for home automation, like when you ask your Assistant to turn the lights on or off.
