Watch TV, films and videos on your Pixel Tablet

Your Pixel Tablet comes with Google TV and Google Play built in and works with Google Cast. You can watch your favourite movies and TV on the tablet's screen, cast videos to and from the tablet, and attach your tablet to the Charging Speaker Dock for expansive, room-filling sound.

You can also control media directly in your favorite streaming app, with Google Assistant, or in the Google TV app .

Note: Some features aren't available in all countries or languages.

How to use Chromecast on your Pixel Tablet

  • To dock your Pixel Tablet and use Hub Mode, you need a Charging Speaker Dock.
  • You might need to unlock the tablet before you can use Google Assistant voice commands to play news, radio, podcasts or other media from certain apps and services.
  • When you download the Gemini mobile app and set up Gemini as your primary assistant, it will replace Google Assistant when your tablet is unlocked. Your Pixel Tablet will continue to use Google Assistant when locked, including in Hub Mode.

How to watch TV, films and videos on your Pixel Tablet

Your Pixel Tablet comes with various services to help you watch your favourite content. Tap into your favourite streaming services on Google TV, purchase and rent films from Google Play or watch TV and films available on YouTube, YouTube TV and other streaming services.

Google TV

Your Pixel Tablet comes with Google TV built in. Google TV brings together everything that you stream in one place, so that you can find entertainment from different services on one screen, without the need to jump from app to app. To use Google TV on your Pixel Tablet:

  1. Open the Google TV app .
  2. Select your streaming services and then tap Done.
  3. When you tap a film or TV show, you might be prompted to sign in to the streaming service. If this happens, follow the on-screen instructions.

Google Play

You can rent or buy new movie releases or TV shows on the Google Play Store, then watch them on your tablet's screen or cast them from your tablet to a device in your home, like a smart TV that works with Google Cast

YouTube and YouTube TV

You can watch YouTube videos on your Pixel Tablet's screen or cast them to any supported device that has an active Internet connection. This includes computers with web browsers, mobile devices, smart TVs, streaming devices and game consoles.

Streaming apps

You can install apps on your Pixel Tablet from the Google Play Store Google Play to stream entertainment from other services, like Hulu, Disney+ and Netflix.

Use Google Assistant to watch TV, films and videos

Some streaming apps and services are compatible with Google Assistant, so you can use 'Hey Google' to play media without downloading an app. Certain streaming apps and services can also play over the lock screen without unlocking your tablet.

To watch films and TV shows with Google Assistant, you'll need to link your video streaming services to Assistant:

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Hub Mode and then Assistant and then Video.
  3. Next to the service that you want to add, tap Add Add.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Important:

Use Assistant voice commands to control playback

Once you link your accounts, you can use voice commands to control media playback. If your tablet is locked, you might need to unlock it first.

Important: If you downloaded and set up the Gemini mobile app and use voice commands that require your tablet to be unlocked, Assistant may pass your request to Gemini.

To do this:

Say 'Hey Google', then:

Open a streaming app

'Open YouTube'

Watch a video clip

'Play cat videos on YouTube'

Search for shows or films

'Search for sitcoms on Hulu'

'Search for sci-fi films on Netflix'

'Tell me about [show or film name]'

Control playback

'Pause'

'Resume'

'Stop'

Change the volume

'Turn it up'

'Turn it all the way up'

'Turn it down'

'Minimise the volume'

Cast and receive music or videos

Your Pixel Tablet works with Google Cast, so you can cast movies, TV and music from other devices to your tablet's screen when attached to a Charging Speaker Dock.
