What you get with a Nest Aware subscription

We offer 2 types of recording for Aware subscriptions: continuous 24/7 video recording, and event video recording, where the camera or doorbell only saves video when activity is detected. This table shows you what is available for each product.  For more details, select your product below to compare features with and without a Nest Aware subscription.

Nest Aware uses advanced algorithms to send you more intelligent motion and sound alerts. These alerts are more helpful because they're more accurate and focus on the events that matter.

Cameras

Depending on which Nest camera model you have, you can get Person seen alerts or Familiar face alerts. These alerts let you know when a human (not your pet) has walked in front of your camera.

If you have a Nest doorbell, you can also get package alerts when a package is dropped off or picked up in its view.

Some cameras can send different alerts for different sounds. With Nest Aware, these cameras can tell the difference between a person speaking and a dog barking. You can pick which sounds you want to get alerts about and which ones your camera should ignore.

Speakers and displays

Your Google Nest and Home speakers and displays can also detect when the sound of a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm or breaking glass is heard in your home (US only). Nest Aware will notify you in the Home app, where you can check in on what's happening, and use Emergency calling with the Home app if you need to.

If you set up the Nest Cam on Nest Hub Max, you can also get notifications in the Nest app.

Note: Emergency calling and glass break alerts are not available in the Nest app.

Activity Zones let your camera send alerts and mark your video history timeline when there's important activity in the zone. You can create your own custom zones to cover the areas you want to be notified about.

How to set up and use Activity Zones

• Nest Aware comes with up to 60 days of event video history (depending on your subscription) that saves clips to the cloud when your camera detects motion or sound.
• Your video history will show only clips of these motion or sound events. During times with no detected events, it will show blank areas.

• If you have a newer camera like Nest Cam (battery), Nest Cam (indoor, wired, 2nd gen), or Nest Doorbell (battery), you can get up to 3 hours of event video history without a subscription.

• Nest Aware Plus and 1st gen Nest Aware have continuous 24/7 video history. Your camera's video stream is continuously recorded and saved securely and privately in the cloud so that you never miss a moment.

Note: Event video history isn't available for 1st gen Nest Aware. Continuous 24/7 video history is only available for wired Google Nest cameras and Nest doorbells. Not available for Nest Doorbell (battery), even with optional wired installation.

If your Nest camera captures a moment you want to remember forever, like your baby's first steps, Nest Aware lets you save and share it.

Timelapses can condense up to 24 hours of video into a 30, 60 or 120 second clip.

Consider a Nest Aware Plus subscription if you need up to 10 days of continuous 24/7 video history, up to 60 days of event video history clips, or you need to record any of the following:

• Everything that happens, even if nothing moves or makes a sound.
• Small animals like cats, squirrels and birds.
• People and objects when they don't move much, like people sitting and eating.
• Areas with poor or changing lighting, like many outdoor areas.

If you don't need to record any of the above, and you only need 30 days of video history, you may prefer Nest Aware for events-only recording in situations like these:

• Your camera monitors an indoor area, and you only need to record adults entering, leaving, and walking across the room.
• You have a doorbell camera, and you only need to record activity at your door.
• Your camera monitors an outdoor area, and people are clearly visible within your camera's field of view.

Note: Continuous 24/7 video history is only available for wired Google Nest cameras and doorbells. Not available for Nest Doorbell (battery), even with optional wired installation.
