Troubleshoot SIM card issues

If your SIM card fails, you may experience one or more of these issues:

  • Phone service doesn’t work.
  • Signal bars don’t show.
  • At the upper right corner of your device or Cellular settings, there’s a “No SIM” message.

If you experience any of these issues, you can troubleshoot with the steps below.

SIM card on any device

  1. Order a new SIM card from Google Fi's website.
  2. Remove the failed SIM card from your phone.
  3. On the tray in SIM slot 1, correctly place the new SIM card.
  4. Restart your device.
    • To restart your device, hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
  5. Open the Google Fi app.
  6. To activate the phone on the new SIM card, follow the instructions on the screen.

Dispose of your old SIM card

Recycle your old SIM card as you would other “e-waste.”

  1. Cut the SIM card into small pieces.
    • It's best to cut along and across the metallic chip pads. This helps to make the chip unreadable and unusable.
  2. Take your destroyed SIM card to an electronics recycler.
    • If that's not available, you can also dispose of the card with your household waste.

If you still have issues, contact a Google Fi agent.
