CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) allows for HDMI devices to be controlled with one remote control.
If you try to cast to a CEC supported TV while on a different source input (local TV channel, Cable, USB), source input will automatically switch to the HDMI port where the Google streaming device is connected. Certain TVs will also power on (when powered off) when trying to cast to the streaming device.
In order for this function to work, your streaming device must be using a wall outlet for power and not plugged into a USB port on the TV.
Manufacturers often call CEC by different names, including:
- Anynet+ (Samsung)
- Aquos Link (Sharp)
- BRAVIA Link and BRAVIA Sync (Sony)
- HDMI-CEC (Hitachi)
- CE-Link and Regza Link (Toshiba)
- SimpLink (LG)
- HDAVI Control
- EZ-Sync
- VIERA Link (Panasonic)
- EasyLink (Philips),
- Realink for HDMI (Mitsubishi).
Fix a problem
If voice commands aren’t working, especially if they've worked before, try the steps below:
- Make sure that your Chromecast and Google TV Streamer firmware version is updated.
- Make sure your TV's firmware is updated by checking the TV user manual. You may also contact your TV manufacturer to verify.
- Make sure CEC is turned on (for some TVs, adjusting certain settings can turn off CEC automatically).
- Switch the streaming device to a different HDMI port.
- Unplug the TV, wait 10 minutes, and plug it back in.
- Use a different voice command.
- If you’ve turned the TV on or off repeatedly during a short period of time, the voice commands may briefly stop working. Wait about 10 minutes before trying again.
