What's new with TalkBack 13.0

You can manage built-in support for braille displays and automatically describe unlabelled icons with TalkBack 13.0.

Built-in support for braille displays

Important: BrailleBack is no longer required to connect to a braille display.

You can use TalkBack with braille displays in Unified English Braille grades 1 and 2, Spanish, Arabic and Polish.

To get started, go to TalkBack settings and tap Braille display.

Automatically describe unlabelled icons

Important: Make sure that you've downloaded the icon detection library. The icon detection library downloads automatically when you turn Automatically describe icons on.

TalkBack can recognise the text within an image and describe icons on the screen. There are two ways to recognise text and icons:

  • When the button or image is unlabelled: TalkBack automatically runs the icon or text recognition.
  • When the button or image is labelled but you want to know the text within an image: In the TalkBack menu, tap Describe image.

Tip: TalkBack can also help to identify unlabelled text and icons in your apps.
